Hiring a car whilst on holiday can be a fantastic way to explore the local area and sometimes a necessity if you’re staying off the beaten track. However, we here at Allianz Assistance know that renting a car abroad can be worrying, even for the most experienced drivers. You might not be familiar with the roads and the region, you may not know where is safe to park and you may even have to overcome nerves to drive on the opposite side of the road. Not to mention getting to grips with road signs and traffic warnings in a foreign language!
Whilst your rental agreement may include some insurance for theft and third party liability, it is likely you will still be at risk of a large excess payment in the event of theft or accidental damage to the vehicle. This means you will be required to cover some of the costs yourself and, depending on your rental agreement, the excess can range from £200 to £2,000.
So to put your mind at ease and the enjoyment back into driving abroad, we’re looking to re-launch our Car Hire Excess insurance product. This will offer you protection against the risk of a costly excess if the unexpected happens.
