Alongside Denmark and Sweden, Norway makes up the territory of Scandinavia in Northern Europe and is known for its rugged landscapes, Northern Lights, fjords and midnight sun.
Norway is a popular destination for both UK and global travelers, before the pandemic it welcomed around 6 million tourists each year.
Its most popular destinations include the capital Oslo, which is a great place for a long weekend city break. Tromso in the very North of the country is the perfect place to see the Northern Lights or the midnight sun depending upon the time of year you travel. And Bergen, known as the gateway to the fjords is a lovely city in itself and a great place from which to explore Norway’s unique west coast.
Due to its popularity with people visiting the fjords, Norwegian cruises are incredibly popular and are offered from a number of UK ports, whilst smaller fjord tours can be taken when you arrive in the country, normally from Bergen or Stavanger.
If boats aren’t your thing then self-driving the fjords is another great option and Norway has a number of specifically designed road trips including the Geiranger-Trollstigen and Hardanger routes, which allow you to experience local towns, fjord views, community traditions and much more.
If you are planning to drive then a trip to the beautiful landscape of the Lofoten Islands is a must and can prove a useful stop over on the way to Tromso (although you might need a few more stops as the drive is around 6 hours).
If you plan to take a cruise or intend on driving, make sure you’re covered with comprehensive travel insurance with cruise cover to give you peace of mind should something unforeseen happen.
No matter your plans whilst you are in Norway, it is important that you take out travel insurance to protect yourself against many unforeseen eventualities.
